Mount Crosby State School
Multipurpose Hall

Mount Crosby State School’s new multipurpose hall hosts sporting and performing arts activities, and other events for this semi-rural community, 30km south-west of Brisbane.

“I will stand there very proudly and say this is a fabulous completion. Thank you for your work, it wouldn’t have got there without you guys.”

– Sue Philips, Principal

  • Mt Crosby State School’s previous hall was a partially enclosed structure with walls on two sides, with a very small meeting room and kitchen space.

The school therefore sought an upgraded facility for sporting and performing arts activities, commensurate with its size, and also to serve the wider local community.

Given that the school had to raise funds for this new project, the hall was designed to be revenue-producing to contribute towards payment of outstanding capital loans, and to then fund future school initiatives.

These funding challenges meant that – from an architecture perspective – this was a long project with high expectations.

  • From the outset, there was considerable hesitation surrounding this project, stemming from the school’s negative experiences with past capital works projects.

We started with our signature visioning process to help the project team accurately scope the scale and size of the proposed new hall facilities, to provide certainty for costing and fund-raising purposes.

We also met regularly with client and stakeholder representatives, and maintained clear and open lines of communication throughout the project’s elongated initiation phase.

In order to ensure the best possible outcome would be realised, we provided full documentation and oversight – working closely alongside the school from the conceptual stage all the way though to completion – to help them achieve their ambitions for the project.

  • We added an impressive foyer that provides a grand sense of entrance, and which guides visitors into the building.

The canteen has been refurbished and updated to create a more functional catering facility, which now services the school and events in the hall, as well as the wider community.
